Island House, Apollo Bay, Bruny Island, Tasmania

Maxine and Mark combined a down-sizing move with a desire to live away from the city. They found this site on North Bruny Island – a gentle grassy slope running down to the D’Entrecasteaux Channel, a few minutes drive from the ferry landing. Bruny_Island_House Bruny_Island_House Bruny_Island_House

The Bruny Island House was primarily designed as a two person home with generous decks for outdoor living and a separate wing containing two guest rooms for the couple’s recently de-nested children. The design takes advantage of a good northerly aspect and long views over water to the west while providing shelter from the sometimes ferocious south-westerly winds. The Island House features natural timbers with local river stones providing thermal mass in heat sinks.

A simple, comfortable, sustainable coastal dwelling for a modest budget. Bruny_Island_House Bruny_Island_House Bruny_Island_House Bruny_Island_House
