Agnes Nienhaus was born in the southern wine region of Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. On completion of her architecture studies in 1999 she was employed by the University of Stuttgart, the Institute of Lightweight Structures and Behnisch & Partners in Stuttgart, Germany as a registered architect in her home country. She has gained over the last 20 years valuable experience on a range of small and large scale projects in Europe and Australia.
Agnes arrived in Australia in 2003, working in Sydney and Hobart as a design & project leader on residential, educational and commercial projects.
Agnes is interested in a holistic approach to Sustainable Architecture, Interiors & Landscape Designs. She is an accredited Building Practitioner in Tasmania, accredited as NatHERS Assessor to perform Home Energy Ratings and a Horticulturalist.
Michael Shrapnel was born in Sydney Australia, educated in Brisbane and Perth and has worked in the field of architecture throughout Australia as well as in the UK. He relocated to Tasmania in 1999 and founded Vivo in 2003. In 2008 he became a founding director of Dock4 Architecture. Michael has specialized in residential design but also has experience in educational, commercial and public sector projects.
Apart from Architecture Michael’s main interest is music. He is a singer and guitar player and has performed his original material for many years both in bands and as a solo performer. He also has a degree in English, majoring in Creative Writing.
Agnes and Michael were married in 2010. They share the same values and interests in sustainable building, healthy living and a passion for good design. Living in Tasmania allows them to create beautiful buildings that embody their own life values of simplicity and sustainability, producing work that is uniquely Tasmanian. They combine their extensive knowledge and experiences in the collaboration as .
